There is an initial product idea. How do you understand whether it is worth pursuing? You need to answer two questions: who is it for, and why do they need it? To do that, you find representatives of the assumed audience and learn what tasks they solve and what they value. Then you evaluate the audience and choose its most promising segment. The initial idea is expanded around the interests of that segment. The scheme is: idea -> customer profiles -> market segment choice.
